Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Apologies for bumping this post once more. I tried starting a more updated one a few weeks ago but it was deleted by the mods.

Anyway, the Third Qualifying Round has now taken shape and here are some picks from that round:

Champion’s Path:

Viking Reykjavik v Lech Poznan.

Main Path:

Viking Stavanger v *Sligo Rovers (*shock victors over Motherwell.)
Hadjuk Split v Vitoria de Guimaraes.
Brondby v Basel.
Lillestrom v Antwerp.
Dundee Utd v AZ67 Alkmaar.
Maccabi Tel Aviv v Aris (Greece.)
Levski Sofia v Hamrun Spartans.
Slavia Prague v Panathinaikos.

There are, of course, other matches featuring more obscure teams, but this round also features Anderlecht, Young Boys, Rapid Vienna and a few other larger teams.

Next Tuesday, the 2nd August, we will know whom our potential opponents are in the play off round, which is due to take place on the 18th and 25th August.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
There were some interesting results last night in the 2nd qualifying round first legs.

Lech Poznan of Poland won 5-0 in the ‘Champion’s Path.’ They will be formidable adversaries indeed, especially at home in front of their partisan crowd.

Slavia Prague won 4-0 away, Sparta Prague drew 0-0 at home, Maccabi Tel Aviv take a 3-0 lead into their home second leg, Rapid Vienna and Gdańsk drew 0-0 in Austria.

AZ Alkmaar and Basel both take slender leads into the second leg, but one shock from last night was Motherwell losing at home, 1-0, to Sligo Rovers.

I don't know, but what fraser is saying sounds right. I don't think seeded teams play at home second, you only play at home second by way of a 'reward' if for example you have topped your group before the first knockout game is played.

We are seeded and it doesn't work like that, could be either date, so won't be booking that.

As an aside is it possible to buy tickets for more than my seat, or do the two of us in our network have to buy them ourselves?

The two legs are on the 18th and 25th August. If we are seeded, which we will be, then we should be at home on the 25th 🤞🏻

Train strike announced for 18 August which could be the day of our home leg game.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
The first qualifying round teams finished their fixtures this evening and our previous ECWC opponents in years gone by, Ararat Erevan and Dinamo Tbilisi, were both knocked out. Mura, the nemesis of Tottenham last season, got through and will play in the second qualifying round.

The second qualifying round commences on 20th and 21st July, with the second legs occurring on 27th and 28th July.

In this round there are some bigger clubs, including Royal Antwerp, Motherwell, Bronby, CSKA Sofia, Slavia Prague and Sparta Prague. Last season’s Europa League group opponents, Rapid Vienna and another team familiar to us, NK Osijek from our 1999 EUFA Cup campaign, are also in this round.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Sarge - who plays second leg at home is part of the draw:

There's 34 teams on our play-off path round with the top 15 teams seeded based on club coefficient (which includes us), plus the 2 teams that drop down from the Europa are seeded. The draw works by placing the half of the teams in that round that are seeded in one bowl and the non-seeded teams in another bowl. Then one ball from each pot is picked and placed in another bowl to determine who plays at home in the first leg. Whichever of the 2 balls in there that are then picked out first will be at home for the first leg of the tie.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
I think that’s correct Sarge son.

I recall Spurs being at home in the 2nd leg last season. They turned around a 1 goal deficit to progress to the group stage.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
If we are seeded does that mean second leg at home?

Miss the first leg - last night of our hols

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
I guess it's in this tread, but I didn't find it and just looked it all up.

We go straight into the Group qualification games.
Qualifying is two legs, 18 and 25 Aug, winner qualifies for group stage.

The draw for who we play will be 1 Aug.
Right now teams in the draw are us, Villarreal, Fiorentina, FC Köln and Nice. The rest will come from two previous qualifying rounds and dropping down from Europa and Champions qualification.
For the draw teams will be seeded by some UEFA scoring thing. At present, just us and Villarreal are definitely seeded, we have the second best seeding. We will not play Villarreal.

That's it cunts, watch out for the 1 Aug.

OK won't be playing the most exotic teams in the beginning but some fun away days. Would be great to get like Djurgården a Stockholm team in Aug-Sep for example.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Besides I would prefer winning the Europa Conference League rather then the League Cup. Wining the League Cup only get you entry to the Europa Conference League plus the winners of the League Cup only wins about £100K where as winning the Europa Conference League gets you £4.25m plus entry to the Europa League.

I know which one I would go for!

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Yep which is why I said ALMOST impossible and mentioned Leicester were the rare exception in the past 9 years.

It’s no coincidence that the same club that broke the monopoly of the Premier League title were the ones that did it for the FA Cup as well.

Gone are the days when a Wimbledon, Coventry or a second division team can win the FA Cup.

It’s much harder to do it now. The financial gap is much greater between the “big 4 or 5” and everyone else.

Except for Leicester in 2021.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Far Cough,

Wigan won the FA Cup 9 years ago.

Since 2014 every FA Cup and League Cup (apart from Leicester in 2021) has been won by the “Big 5” of Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal & Chelsea.

It’s almost impossible for a club like ours to win a domestic competition anymore.

Hammer-ed 7:21 Mon Jun 20
Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Far Cough but didn't Wigan get relegated on the same season? Their player were focusing too much on the cup then on their league position.

In any case now the domestic trophies seems to be in the hands of the so-called "big teams". The Europa Conference League seems to be something that we have a better chance of winning, all depends on who drops down from the Europa League.

Far Cough 2:23 Sun Jun 19
Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
The FA cup can be won nowadays, look at Wigan, those cunts won it.
